NEW VALUES FOR WATER ALLOWANCES,  WHEN LANDING HERRING OR MACKEREL FOR DIRECT CONSUMPTION PURPOSES IN NORWAY - IN FORCE AS FROM 1ST JANUARY 2003

Water allowances

The Ministry of Fisheries has decided that the water allowance which is deducted from gross weight value upon landing herring and mackerel in Norway for direct consumption purposes, is to be altered from 4 % as per to day, to

 8 % for mackerel, and

13 % for herring, - to be made applicable as from 1st January 2003.

As concerns other pelagic species delivered for direct consumption purposes, the water allowance of 4 % shall continue to be applicable.

The reason for this alteration is the objective to harmonise the water allowance in Norway and Denmark upon landing pelagic species.

Applicable water allowances in Denmark are set to cover both water, by-catch and non-value material following the landing of a catch. As from 1st January 2003 the full price value of landed herring or mackerel shall be paid in accordance with the quantity weighed, but after being deducted the water allowance in case.

At the contract receipt there shall still be a separate line stating (each) species being part of the main catch as by-catch.

Example

Upon landing mackerel:

Gross weight value:                         100 tonnes

 -  8 % water allowance deducted                             8 tonnes

Contract quantity                                92 tonnes

The contract quantity of 92 tonnes shall be paid in accordance with the given auction price. In this particular example there is a by-catch of 1 tonne of saithe which is to be stated separately in the contract receipt.

Norges Sildesalgslag apologises that these alterations are put into force with such short notice, but our organisation has received this information as per to day including the fact that the appliance is due as from 1st January 2003.
