The course of the fisheries

A quiet start for the new year In the pelagic fisheries there was a quiet start with just two catches reported until Monday. Just a few coastal vessels have set sails for the herring fields and the catches have been taken close to shore north of the island of Senja. From the fields closer to 71º N Faroese vessels have been catching herring of a better size.
From the southern part of the North Sea 15 vessels have sailed for the ocean sprat. Just a few observations are reported and no fishing activity so far.
When it comes to North Sea herring a couple of vessels set course for the herring fields and there are some fishing activity in the EU zone.
From the mackerel grounds in the west it is reported that the fleet is heading southwest now looking for fish of the “right” size.
