Good catches both for Atlanto Scandic herring and North Sea herring – some mackerel from foreign vessels - while the horse mackerel season is drawing to a close.
Atlanto Scandic herring (Nw Spring Spawning herring)
As the fleet is close to finish this autumn’s horse mackerel season turning to other activities/fisheries, the catching of Atlanto Scandic herring has increased and thus the weekly volumes. Nearly 28.000 MT were reported last week mainly from high sea vessels, but also some activity from the smaller coastal vessels was registered. In high sea areas the full sized herring is now observed. As reported last week the catching took place in an area from 66 º N and 0 º - the catching now moving north to 68 º - 72ºN and from 0 º to 6-7 º E. The average size: 365 g and more. Even further north and east the herring again is smaller with an average of 305 g upwards. Along the coast the size is 200 g. Even small sized herring is fairly good priced; NOK 5 /kg. and average price for the week; NOK 6,50.
North Sea herring
The quantity of the week was close to 3.900 MT - mainly from purse seiners. Average price: NOK 6,26 – mostly Norwegian buyers.
Mackerel Last week 1.000 MT were registered following contractual deliveries to Norwegian buyers. A few catches of penned in fish adds to this quantity.
Another week of moderate catches when it comes to horse mackerel. During the wee end 7-8 catches were reported with volumes from 100 – 325 MT. The fishing is now performed in the EU zone and following the quota accounts, there is no quotas left. Last week’s volumes were close to 2.400 MT with an average price of NOK 8,66. - Most vessels have now finished horse mackerel fishing and the accumulated volume reached 21.000 MT.
In the Oslofjord some catches are registered amounting to 100 MT. The fish is of good size; 42-43 pcs/kg. – mainly delivered to Swedish buyers.
