Not too bad for the “horse” – less activity for the Atlanto Scandic herring - some catches of mackerel, mainly foreign vessels - and some North Sea herring.
Atlanto Scandic herring (Nw Spring Spawning herring)
Moderate activity has characterized the week, and just 15.000 MT were registered. The reason is that just a small number of vessels have been catching herring as the main objective was chasing the horse mackerel. The catching takes place in an area between 72º and 73º N and 14-16º E. Further east somewhat smaller sized herring is observed; less than 300 g. From the buyer’s side it is signalised a demand for smaller herring, and price-wise there has been a certain reduction. Average of the week; NOK 5,92 compared to NOK 6,59 the previous week. One reason is smaller average size in general.
Following a gently start last week, the weather was not very favourable by the beginning of the week. By Thursday conditions improved and some good catches were registered. The total of the week; 11.000 MT. The activity has mainly taken place in the southern parts and over an extended area. A few catches are reported from Ekofisk in the south to the Utsirabank in the north. - In addition a few limited catches from the Møre district. While the price last week was NOK 10,36 as an average, this week proved a record of NOK 12,51 at the best, followed by reduced prices later in the week. Average: NOK 8,51.
This week 4.100 MT have been registered, mainly from foreign vessels. Just a few Norwegian vessels have still quotas left. The activity is now taking place close to Shetland, but weather has severely hampered the fishing.
North Sea herring
Last week just four catches were registered. Total volume; 900 MT.
