Close to 40.000 MT of capelin from the Barents Sea, 10.000 MT of blue whiting – but just 1.800 MT of Atlanto Scandic herring.
Capelin in the Barents Sea
After declaring an area of special attention last weekend, the fleet moved further east and on Monday capelin was registered off Tanasnaget. But here the capelin was even smaller than the one caught further west, - only 50 pcs/kg as mixed average. On Friday some of the vessels were operating to the west again, this time north of Sørøya Island. The size was somewhat better here, - 47 pcs/kg. However, this is not the size preferred by the buyers. The roe content is varying from 15 -20 %.
It is mainly purse seiners in activity; 37.700 MT, while trawlers got 730 MT and coastal vessels 475 MT. 26.300 MT were sold for consumption purposes and 13.600 MT for meal&oil. Average price; NOK 1,87 for consumption and NOK 1,75 for reduction purposes.
Last week the total weekly volume reached close to 10.000 MT. Of this quantity 7.000 MT were caught in international waters southwest of Porcupine and 3.000 MT in the EU zone north of Porcupine. Except for one catch, the lot was sold in Killybegs. The size varies from 156 g to 200 g, with an average of 176 g. The lowest price; NOK 2,93 with an average of NOK 2,78. On Sunday night good conditions were reported from the EU zone with good observations of fish.
Atlanto Scandic herring (Nw Spring Spawning herring)
For the Atlanto Scandic herring , the weather has been a hindrance throughout the entire week. Just 1.800 MT or even less were the result of the week. Sunday was the best day resulting in 870 MT. The average size is still in the range of 300 g, from 216 in the lower end to 330 g at the best. The prices vary from NOK 3,25 to 6,41 with an average of NOK 5,79.
