The course of fisheries as per week 37/2018
Unusual little of mackerel last week. Better for the North Sea herring – and some sprat and horse mackerel.
The volume of North Sea herring at the level of previous week, while there was a significant lower volume of Atlanto Scandic herring. And to be added; the weather has not been very cooperative…
Atlanto Scandic herring
Last week just 3.600 MT of Atlanto Scandic herring were registered. The operations have been carried out in the same waters as previously; in the fjords outside Tromsø and in the vicinity of Karsløy Island. The size has varied from 240-370 g with an average at 353 g.
In the forthcoming week some herring activity is still expected.
North Sea herring
As the week before; some 3.000 MT of North Sea herring were registered. The operations have been carried out both in the EU zone and in the Norwegian zone; - respectively 2.200 MT in EU waters and 800 MT in Norwegian. 1.600 MT were taken by trawl (some purse seiners were also using trawl) and 1.400 MT were taken by net. Trawlers had 350 MT, coastal vessels 65 MT and purse seiners close to 2.600 MT. The size varied from 126-185 g with an average at 157 g.
In the EU zone the catching has been performed in grids close to Bressay Shoal (42/33-34-43-44). From the Norwegian side of the border line the catches have been taken in grids 0854-0855-2851 and 0814. It still remain some quotas of North Sea herring, however the major part still having quota left, has just a tiny part left in EU waters. In the forthcoming week the hope is to observe more of the herring inside the Norwegian zone.
Of other species just small quantities have been landed; - one catch of 25 MT of horse mackerel and close to 70 MT of costal sprat. 60 MT of the sprat were big sized and was sold to Sweden, while 10 MT were suited for canning and penned-in in the southern part of Hordaland County.
The North Sea herring is still widespread, – and miserable weather condition for the mackerel up north.
An even week for the North Sea herring, a little better for mackerel up north, - and the sand eel season is over.
Last week: The North Sea herring widespread, and the very first catch of mackerel in the north.
We like to remind you about this from the Sales Regulations;
Lower minimum prices for raw material for meal and oil purpose
The North Sea herring fisheries in progress, but results do not reflect the efforts made. The very first catches of matjes herring have been displayed in Egersund.
