The course of fisheries as per week 2/2018
The second week of the year; - not the busiest in pelagic, and by the end of the week, harsh weather forced the fleet to port.
Again - the blue whiting fisheries were the main activity; 29.415 MT last week.
The main volume was caught in the area close to St. Kilda. One catch was taken in the vicinity of Porcupine, while two catches were taken further north in the EU zone, - and - a more tiny catch (250 MT) was taken near the Faroe Islands. The total catch quantity was delivered in Norway and Denmark.
The prices have tended somewhat down lately.
The catching of mackerel being penned-in has started with 8 MT last week. The size is highly variable, from 160 - 350 g. So far just one penned-in catch is sold.
Two penned-in catches totalling 34 MT from Tysvær were sold last week to a reasonable price.
Atlanto Scandic herring
A small penned-in catch (800 kg), average weight 270 g, were taken near Bømlo Island last week and sold at minimum price.
Strong winds hampered fishing operations.
High activity for the North Sea herring, while for Atlanto Scandic herring it is nearly over, - especially for the smaller vessels.
Record last week with more than 180 million individual herring being caught.
More than 37.000 MT of Atlanto Scandic herring last week - and some ocean sprat for consumption purposes.

When weather conditions were not too severe last week; good results for Atlanto Scandic herring, - an increasing number of vessels into the North Sea herring fisheries, giving a better result, - and still some mackerel.
